A taxonomic study of the family Dictyosteliaceae
based on ribosomal DNA sequences Kyoung-Mi Kang and Nam-Kee Chang Abstract: The sequences of the 5.8S nuclear ribosomal DNA and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS1 and ITS2) regions from 12 species of Dictyosteliaceae were analyzed. These regions were extremely divergent in what we consider to be a single family. In the ITS I and ITS2 regions there were high nucleotide length variations between two genera, Dictyostelium and Polysphondylium. The results of sequence alignments revealed that the sequences of the 5.8S rDNA had sufficient divergences to be used for a taxonomic study of these taxa and the ITS regions were useful to discriminate between closely related species. |
